Martin Waxman, president and co-founder of Palette Public Relations Inc., took 25 minutes out of his hectic pre-SXSW schedule to chat with me this morning about life in a PR agency, the importance of a traditional PR background (along with social media knowledge), and our digital footprints.

I just got a chance to listen to this interview with Martin Waxman and am really glad that I did! I learned a lot from this short, 25 minute interview.
As a soon-to-be graduate (21 days!!!) I took special note on what sort of skills PR Professionals are looking for when hiring either interns or full-time team members. It re-emphasized how important it is to have a great understanding of traditional media relations, along with social media knowledge, especially Twitter.
Prof. Nixon, I know you have repeatedly told us how important it is to proofread our blogs so that there are no gramatical or spelling errors, but every time I hear that statement repeated from others, it reminds me of how necessary this basic step is. When Martin Waxman talked about how a potential intern was disqualified because of several gramatical errors, it really sunk in!
One other thing that really stuck out to me during this interview was Martin Waxman’s explaination of ROI. I thought it was clever how he talked about taking precautions to ensure that your Risk of Ignorance does not prevent Returns on Investment.
Thank you for sharing this interview with us! I will definately be following Martin Waxman more closely on Twitter and reading his blog at http://www.martinwaxman.com.
