  • Name of the blog
  • Website address of the blog
  • Intended audience (if you can determine that)
  • Your thoughts on the content of the blog

If you need some ideas of what I mean by PR-related blogs, see my links: http://del.icio.us/listeningmatters/PR_blogs for a starting place. (Please don’t use one of these, but you can use one that is linked FROM one of these.)

  1. In PR the grass is much greener…

    http://www.natterjackpr.com/archives/2006/07/in_pr_the_real.html

I think that the intended audience is anyone in the PR profession. Public Relations has many negative stereotypes because of the unethical actions that have been taken in the past. This article specifically talks about astroturfing, which is when someone takes on a false identity and creating non-representative groups. The author of this blog suggests that PR people try and eliminate this practice by calling out people who participate in astroturfing.

  2. The 5 myths of the Public Sector of PR
    http://northernpr.co.uk/2006/07/24/the-5-myths-of-public-sector-pr/

The intended audience I think is those PR Practitioners who work in the public sector of PR, or those who want to or are going to. I think this is a good blog beause it gives tips on how to stay focused and clean with what you write. Although it is based on the UK, most of the points he makes still hold true in the US. This blog could be very helpful to some who have questions about this type of PR.

  3. The author is Miriam Edwards and I’m not sure who the intended audience is but it sounds like maybe college students in the PR/Communications field. She explains how the best and most well-rounded prospective public relations professionals searching for a job in the current market whould encompass traditional communications values and contemporary communications skills. And how being able to successfully communicate with potential employers and potential publics on a personal level is valuable in today’s job market.

  5. prcouture.com

PR Couture is “Fashion PR’s hotspot”. It is geared to those PR practitioners in the fashion industry or related field. There are places on the bolg for people to comment about what is going on in the industry, and even a place to advertise. The site also stays updated with upcoming events that PR practitioners might be interested in.
I think it is a pretty neat site! If I were in the firled, I think that it would be very helpful!

  6. The PR News Blog
    http://www.prnewsonline.com/prnewsblog/

This blog is under the control of Diane Schwartz and Courtney Barnes. It is a place where PR professionals and students can discuss and analyze different PR tactics and strategies being used in society.

I think the intended audience is PR professionals. This blog is a good way they can see what the public thinks about how they handle issues. If the public is giving them grief then they might be able to change up the way they handle things in order to remain in good standings with the public.

I enjoyed reading parts of this blog. My favorite entry was the one called “Dunkin’ Donuts Out-Does Starbucks … Again.” This was very interesting and very ingenious PR strategy. The idea of selling coffee for 99 cents while Starbucks was closed was brilliant.

Overall, I think this blog could be helpful to PR professionals and students. For the most part I found it to be informative and interesting.

  7. Online Reputation Management: Living Radically Transparent with Andy Beal & Dr. Judy Strauss

    http://www.toprankblog.com/category/public-relations/

I believe that the intended audience is P R Professionals, PRSA members, marketing and business professionals.

I thought that the content of the blog was very informative. It also gave great insight on Public Relations and Online management of media. The Online media ranged from blogs to create and manage an image with a general public or specific audience.

I’m interested in online blogs as a form of Image management and found these blogs and comments to be helpful in shaping my own ideas. The examples were relatable to consumers of specific products or to similar products with similar image issues.

I found that the way a company reacts to an issue that threatens thier reputation can have positive or negative effects.

Ultimately, I’ve learned that image/issues management is a big part of the Public Relations world. Also, our ability to like and dislike something proved to be important to a company’s reputation.

  8. This Public Relations blog is about how P.R is constantly evolving and that it supports the strict promotion days of P.T Barnum, who is the father of modern P.R.

  9. This PR blog was of project run way so it involved in the entertainment field and it included different blogs from p.r. specialist and it also included the designers blog or even fans of the designes blog. The website was very informative and easy to navigate through it was a great P.R Blog on the relationship of the people on the onrganization television show as well as the fans(the publics).

  10. Media Relations Blog
“Public Speaking as a Strategic Marketing Tool”

Intended audience: anyone interested in PRSA or anyone interested in PR

This blog was very informative and interesting.
Bill Arnovich says in this blog that “Most Public Relations Firms realize the abundance of issues in any industry work lends itself to PR client speaking opportunities at many available venues.”

This blog mainly describes the importance of public speaking in the field of public relations and the different tips for public speaking and how you should evaluate your audience differently for each event.

I am currently in public speaking so I found this to be a big help for my next speech, it gave me a different aspect on audience demographics.

The other things in this blog helped me learn that you can get a lot of networking done through public speaking, because there tends to be alot of new clients at conferences and trade shows.

Overall I liked this blog and found it to be very informative and helpful, but a little boring at times.

  11. “The Secret PR Weapon”

    http://prblognews.com/

The intended audience of this blog is not very clear, but it could be those following the presidential debates or political PRs.

This blog, written by Mark Rose is an interesting perspective on the current PR that different presidential candidates are using.
I thought it was interesting that Rose pointed out that the tactics that each candidate uses are often the ‘same ole’ tactics that presidential candidates have been using for years. These tactics work for some, but not for others. Rose obviously studied up and watched the campaigns to figure out which strategies they were using.
The stand out element of this blog is the ‘secret weapon’ in which Rose is referring. I was shocked to read that it was Chelsea Clinton. Rose asks can she actually make ‘the’ difference in the election..
“When Chelsea, in her sweet, soft, authentic voice, speaks about why “my Mom” should be President how do we say no?” says the Blog.
With this blog being a little dated (Feb 14) I think that Chelsea’s campaigning didn’t help out quite as much as Rose might have expected, as Obama has pulled the majority of younger voters.

  12. Vegas PR News
A blog from the Las Vegas Valley Chapter of PRSA

“Do true public relations professionals lie?”
    November 28, 2007 | by Pete Codella, APR |

Target Audience: Members of the Las Vegas Chapter of PRSSA

This is an interesting way to get members more involved in chapter. I think its a great idea to make members feel as though they should come but it also gives them a reason.

The author here poses some great questions that makes you think about what being a PR Practitioner is about while also tagging a motivation to become more involved.

The question I found most interesting is what makes a PR practitioner a professional?

I agree with his opinion, listed below:
A public relations practitioner is a professional when he or she:

    Is compensated for work performed;
    Brings a unique set of knowledge, skills and abilities to bear on a communications opportunity or challenge;
Practices for the overall public good (thus the code of ethics); and
Participates in continuing education to hone skills and develop new ones.

  13. POP! PR Jots

Intended Audience- I feel that the audience that submits to this blog are Pop culture fans but in a older age range. Since the blogger Jeremy Pepper is 36 years old I feel a much older audience would relate more to his submissions. Jeremy blogs to other clients, colleagues, and other bloggers to share what he feels the best blogging practices are for PR. Many of his topics are related to how businesses could do a better job in the PR events they produce. He even did a story on Barry Williams (Greg Brady) and his MyLifeBrand, how Barry in involved with the media and social spotlight. Also many of his topics are on how “something” effects the community or how PR is involved in the community. Basically in a nut shell his blog is how the Do’s and Dont’s of PR and how to write a good blog. Personally I would not really want to read this blog ONLY if I had a blog myself and wanted to know how to write a good blog. Maybe when I am older and in the working world I will need to know good and bad PR but I think I even got that part handled. This blog was really opinionated which he even states in his profile. All in all I don’t really care for this blog, I feel like there are better, more interesting PR blogs that will intice me to read them.
